Towers were built in San Gimignano as a show of wealth among
citizens. Today only 14 towers remain in the city; the rest have collapsed.
The ancient city is still beautiful, but PACKED with tourists. We only stopped
here for a few hours before heading on to Florence. |

This herd of tourists is small compared to what it's like in
high season. (We were there in September.) |

An old well in the middle of the main piazza.
(This well is always on postcards, but I just can't remember the damn name.) |
