Despite the cramped surrounding streets, the palace itself is deceptively large--with huge wrought-iron gates (also designed by Gaudí) permitting horse-drawn carriages to enter directly into the basement stables!

The carriages follow a spiral, gradually sloping cobble-stone drive into the palace basement.
