BOLOGNA
The Red City
Known as the "Red City" not only because
of its color but also because it is home to
Italy's Communist party.
Kate, Dave and I took a lunchbreak here for some DELICIOUS pasta, shortly after leaving the chaos of Padua, where we had slept the first night.
It was quickly evident that Bologna is very beautiful, and also very RED. All the buildings are painted or built with warm-colored material....browns, reds, oranges, and yellows. With the sunny weather the effect was awesome.
Bologna is home to Europe's oldest university, and the ever-famous pasta Bolognese (although there it's called
"al ragu").
Our favorite architectural site in Bologna was this fountain, where nymphs happily sprout water from their nipples.
Yes, their nipples.

Anyway, we had fun laughing at this one, and Dave (Kate's brother) took a great picture of it!
