The A M A L F I C O A S T
a breathtaking stretch of towns south of Napoli
The harbor in Salerno, where I rested a few hours
before catching a bus to Amalfi.
Atrani , a small town around the corner from Amalfi,
is where I stayed the first night in the area.
This part of the journey I did myself.   When Kate and I left Barcelona,
she travelled on south to Portugal and I drove back along southern France
to Italy.  I stopped in some towns in France and also in Alāssio....the town
my dad used to frequent with his parents when he was little.  I visited my
friend in Bologna for a night, then took a train down to Salerno, where my
tour of the Amalfi Coast began.

Even in Salerno, the supposedly most "urban" city along the Amalfi coast, I instantly noticed
a contrast to the more stress-filled northern half of Italy.  The pace of life down here was slower, the weather was warmer, and people took time just to lounge lazily in the sun and watch boats cruise by.  I felt instantly euphoric and at peace.
Above a postcard of Positano, and to
the right a photo I took of the most famous and also, in my opinion, the
most beautiful of the towns.
